Ten Meliá Hotels International properties in Mexico and the Dominican Republic will begin offering free Covid-19 antigen tests effective immediately to meet the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requirements soon required for U.S.-bound travelers.
Beginning on Jan. 26, U.S.-bound travelers, including American citizens, must present a negative Covid-19 test to board their return flight from another country. The new negative test requirement must be from the previous three days.
This order is expected to deal a blow to the already slow recovery of international travel. Failure to produce a negative test result from the previous 72 hours to a flight’s departure would mean that a passenger cannot travel to the United States.
While many hotels and destinations have quickly adjusted their onsite facilities and amenities to give travelers the option to test onsite before returning to the U.S., Meliá Hotels International is among the first international brands to offer the testing for free. The option to receive an onsite (rapid) antigen test begins tomorrow, and results are typically expected on the same day, which makes it easy for those planning international travel.
