Congress, Distillers Need Temporary Tax Relief

Posted: Mar 24, 2020

Things are moving fast as Congress works on economic relief packages in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Distillers across the country are stepping up to produce hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray using their undenatured alcohol for the nation's general public, first responders, and health care workers.

Technically, they are subject to pay punitive Federal Excise Taxes (FET) on this undenatured alcohol ($50 per 9L case +/-), even though there is a critical need for hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray and their businesses may not survive this crisis.

This is unacceptable. Congress needs to waive the FET on undenatured alcohol, for a temporary period while distillers are producing hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray.

We need YOU to take action and urge your members of Congress to waive the FET temporarily!
