Alexandria Ocasio-cortez Had Nowhere To Live For Her New Job, So Chef José Andrés Stepped Up
Posted: Nov 09, 2018
A very specific part of a New York Times profile of newly elected New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went viral today. In it she talked about the logistical anxiety of not having a salary for three months and trying to figure out exactly how to afford an apartment in Washington, D.C. Conservative outlets mocked her, because conservative outlets are not fond of people’s economic hardships contradicting their bogus narrative that everything is great. Ocasio-Cortez hit back in the honest and intelligent way that brought her to Washington in the first place.

There is no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed.
Mocking lower incomes is exactly how those who benefit from + promote wealth inequality the most keep everyday people silent about 1 of the worst threats to American society: that the rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer.

.@Ocasio2018 kept it all the way and said she can't afford to move to Washington, D.C., until that congressional salary kicks in https://bit.ly/2zG04wR
Many people online tweeted at Ocasio-Cortez that she could stay with them, and even some commenters on the above-linked diary said the same. Another person decided to offer his D.C. home to Ocasio-Cortez.

It’s not every day that you get that kind of offer from a James Beard Foundation Humanitarian of the Year award recipient. But then again, Chef José Andrés is a true humanitarian. Also, you know the food is gonna be great!
