What Wine Goes With Corned Beef And Cabbage?

Posted: Mar 17, 2018

Q: What wine goes with corned beef and cabbage?
A: Beer.

Seriously, I collect wine and know a fair amount about this sort of thing. Strangely, the same wines that go with Thanksgiving dinner also go with corned beef and cabbage.

If you prefer red, go with Beaujolais, Grenache (a Rhone varietal), or a light Zinfandel if you can find one. A light Pinot Noir, like from Anderson Valley, might also work. Steer clear of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

On the white side, try Pinot Gris (or Pinot Grigio), Riesling, or Gewurztraminer. Alternatively, most Spanish or Italian whites will also work.

Or you can just go with a dark beer or a Black and Tan.

How to make a Black and Tan?

  1. Get a frosty pint mug
  2. Pour half a bottle of Bass Ale (or similar)
  3. Slowly pour half a bottle of Guiness (or similar) over a spoon so it runs down the side of the glass
  4. The bottom half of the glass should be tan and the top should be black.
  5. What does this have to do with business? All work and no play --

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
