World Central Kitchen is cooking up turkey and all the fixings
Of course José Andrés and his team have a Thanksgiving plan.
World Central Kitchen, the nonprofit led by the chef, arrived in Puerto Rico in September to feed people in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. The organization mobilized food trucks, organized hundreds of sandwich-making volunteers, and activated its network of chefs to set up kitchens across the island, including hard-hit and hard-to-to reach areas.
World Central Kitchen, Andrés, and their coterie of chefs and volunteers plan to serve an estimated 40,000 Thanksgiving meals this week. They plan to serve “families throughout the island including San Juan, Vieques, Naguabo, Adjuntas, Ponce, Dorado, Utuado, Aguadilla and Manatí” as well as volunteers.
“This is our opportunity to give thanks to the community and the people who have been alongside our team, and helped us to serve over 2.9 million meals to the people of Puerto Rico,” Andrés says in a press release.
In another recent update, Andrés pledged his nonprofit’s services through Christmas.
