The new brewery is seen as a show of confidence in the Chinese beer market by AB InBev, the world’s largest brewer, reported CNBC.
The Putian Brewery located in China’s southern Fujian province has top of the range production lines that can process 160,000 cans per hour, twice as fast as previous production lines.
Other technological updates incorporated to speed up efficiency include high-speed scanning and automatic discarding of products with defects.
The brewery will also install solar power panels to reduce emissions equal to the environmental impact of 780,000 trees, according to the company.
“It was built in record time like everything in China and it’s a very environmentally sound brewery, as most of our breweries are,” AB InBev CEO Carlos Brito told CNBC.
China is already the world’s biggest beer market. According to Euromonitor International, the country drank 25 billion litres of beer in 2015, almost twice that of the US.
