Winery: Lava Vine

Lava Wine

We chose to stop at Lava Vine winery on a whim and without a reservation. It was late in the afternoon, and I thought the name sounded interesting. It looked very quiet, and as Wednesdays are often slow days in Napa Valley, I was worried it might be closed. We were pleased to find it open, and the host kind and welcoming.

There was one other couple present, and they were friendly and talkative. Our awesome host led our children into an open room, where they could color and play, and showed them a corner with coloring supplies and a few games, and gave them markers and paper to get creative. As someone who travels with her children in tow, I cannot explain how awesome it was to find a winery that was stocked with some things to keep my children busy and engaged.

We tried some wonderful whites and reds. The Tempranillo stands out as being memorable. Our knowledgeable host talked to us about the differences between the grapes and the history of the winery. The casual, yet elegant tasting room, also featured a small stage and our host explained that they often have live music performances on weekends. He also mentioned that several well-known athletes and actors have dropped by to sample the wines of Lava Vine in the past few seasons. .

We enjoyed the tasting and our experience at Lava Vine, and look forward to visiting the small modern tasting room again soon.
