Californians could be on the receiving end of some free beer if Mexico can pull off a World Cup feat they haven’t accomplished in over 20 years.
Bud Light will be giving a free beer to Mexico fans in California if they beat Brazil in the round of 16 Monday. Mexico has made it the knockout rounds in six straight World Cups, but have failed to advance to the quarterfinals in every cup since 1994.
Their failure to advance passed the round of 16 has been dubbed the “Curse of the fifth game.”
If Mexico wins its round of 16 match against Brazil on Monday, the company will give California fans (ages 21+) a free Bud Light. Mexico has not advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals since 1986.
Last summer, the company offered free beer to Philadelphia Eagles fans if the team beat the odds to win its first Lombardi Trophy.
Mexico’s match against Brazil starts at 7 a.m. (Pacific) on Monday.
