There are fundraisers, and then there’s the G.O.A.T. (as in greatest of all time) dinner that Rick Bayless has planned for May 6.
The “Sunday Funday” dinner will take place at Bayless’ own Bucktown home. There will be only 40 guests, who’ll enjoy up-close-and-personal cooking demonstrations, tastings of craft beer from Bayless’ Cruz Blanca restaurant and cocktails by Lanie Bayless, spirits director for Frontera Grill.
After that, guests will sit down to a dinner featuring acclaimed Mexican chef Juan Ramon Cardenas, who will prepare his specialty, fire-roasted cabrito (baby goat) in Bayless’ garden. Frontera/Topolobampo sommelier Jill Gubesch will provide the wine pairings; guitarist Carlo Basile (who was part of “Cascabel,” the Lookingglass Theatre production in which Bayless showed off his dance moves) will perform.
Tickets for this event cost a brow-mopping $750, but the proceeds go to the Frontera Farm Foundation, the Bayless nonprofit that provides capital-development grants to family farms in the Midwest.
