All those in favor say ‘Aye.’
Online shopping and Amazon Prime. Name a better duo. That might have been an unbeatable combination…until now.
Amazon recently announced plans to open a brick-and-mortar liquor store in California, right next to its 40,000-square-foot Prime Now warehouse. The store will essentially serve as an intermediary for Amazon to deliver wine, beer, and liquor to Prime Now customers in the area—all in under two hours.
Alcohol delivery + Amazon Prime Now. Yep, that’s a better duo.
The proposed 200-square-foot store will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mercury News reports, and located in San Francisco's Dogpatch neighborhood. Another reason behind the plan? The stand-alone shop will help Amazon meet the requirements to obtain a liquor license in accordance with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Once that’s done, the e-commerce giant will have a lot more freedom when it comes to on-demand booze. Hi, yes, I’d like some rosé, STAT.
Prime Now has been operating in the Bay Area for a while now, but alcohol delivery was only available through Whole Foods orders. Thankfully, the forecast looks promising and members should be able to get their hands on Amazon-direct Prime Now booze pretty soon.
A few more nitty-gritty details: The store plans to accept delivery orders from 8 a.m. through midnight. Also, Amazon applied for the liquor license last week, but it's still undetermined when exactly this feature will be up and running. If all goes as planned, San Francisco will join cities like Seattle, L.A., and Chicago in the list of places with access to Amazon alcohol deliveries soon. We’ll keep you posted.
